Native Snakes
California is home to many species of snakes. However, you will only have encounters with a small portion of these species. The snakes you see on this page are the more common native snakes to southern California.  FOR A FULL LISTING OF SNAKES NATIVE TO CALIFORNIA PLEASE CLICK HERE.  Encounters with other species of snakes not native to Orange county may still be possible. The reason for this is due to people releasing captive snakes from other areas of the state or world. This can obviously be a huge danger and concern not only to humans but the surrounding wildlife and habitat.
